The fun just never ends!! Larry is putting in a new hot water heater in today. In
the past 4 days, we have managed to find several more things that either need
repairing or replacing. We found a leak and Larry traced it to a thru hull that
was leaking. Now we have to get the boat pulled AGAIN to have that replaced. When
will it all end? I think when we leave here, we will have a new boat.
Thursday November 3, 2005
We had the new dinghy davits installed today and we are really pleased with the
way they look. Larry has spent most of the day preparing the boat to be pulled.
The boat is completely torn up below and naturally, that does not make me happy,
but I know it is a necessary evil at this stage of the game. I will be happy to
get it all put back together.
Friday November 4, 2005
The boat was pulled and of course, they could not finish the work in a day... so
we have to stay out of the water until Monday (they don't work on weekends). We
got a hotel room that was pet friendly and we are going to try to make the best of
it. They are replacing 3 thru hulls instead of just one because... well, you know,
while we are down there... so it will be a job... but at least it will be done
right. We are replacing the plastic ones with bronze ones.
Monday November 7, 2005
Larry and I tried to rest a little over the weekend but didn't really. We shopped
a little and played tourist. The boat came out today and she is fixed and not
leaking.... for now. We will take a few days to clean up the boat.
Wednesday November 9, 2005
Got the boat cleaned up and tried out our davits. We will have to work out a few
kinks, but did we really think it was going to be perfect the first time. That
would be too easy and NOTHING in boating is easy.
Friday November 11, 2005
We are making another crossing today... about 26 hours. We are headed to Winyah
Bay and our new friends, Linda and Gary, are going to follow us. This will be
their first overnighter, so I am glad they chose us share in this experience.
Larry has been really studying weather and our Skymate system has new weather
forecasting that is awesome. He made predictions based on all the data we got from
Skymate and he was right on the money. We are really pleased with this
forecasting system and it looks like it will be a great asset to us for future
crossings.
Saturday November 12, 2005
Got into Winyah Bay at about 11:00 AM. We cut a few hours off of our time because
we had the wind and waves in out favor. We are anchored and resting for the day.
Monday November 14, 2005
We just made a second crossing of about 29 hours and we are so tired... we can't
think straight!! We are definitly not as young as we used to be. We got into
Fernandina Beach at 11:00..... made really good time. We went 200 miles in 28
hours. So we are in Florida and our next stop is Saint Augustine.
Tuesday November 15, 2005
After leaving the Chesapeake, we headed down the ICW, making stops in Great
Bridge, VA; Coinjock, VA; Belhaven, NC; Oriental, NC; and then Beaufort, NC. We
stayed there a while and to make up some time... we headed off shore and made
tracks. Two overnighters in a row and we are back in Fernandina Beach, FL.
Thursday-Wednesday November 17-23, 2005
We are traveling in the ICW, due to weather conditions, and stopping in St.
Augustine for a few days. We are picking up the last few items on our list that we
think we need before we get to the islands. Our friends, Bruce and Barbara, are
here. Their son runs the marina where we are staying and we are spending time with
them. We met another couple, Steve and Janet. All six of us had dinner the night
before we left and had a great time.
Thursday-Monday November 24-28, 2005
Left St. Augustine and made stops in Daytona Beach, Titusville, Melbourne, Fort
Pierce, West Palm Beach and landed in Ft. Lauderdale for a week or so. We plan to
pick up the last few items before heading for the Bahamas. I know I have said that
100 times and so have we... but the list does seem to grow as time goes on. One
thing is for sure... this boat should have been called The Ark because there are 2
of everything on it. Larry does believe in "spares". I am not complaining. I would
rather buy now than be stranded later.
Wednesday November 30, 2005
We have worked non stop getting ready to leave but don't know when we will be able
to... because of weather, of course. I think Larry has decided that we are going
to go to Miami and cross over from there.
