Saturday April 1, 2006
We went out for the weekend with a couple we met in St. Thomas. Went to Newfound
Bay. It is a little bay where lot of locals go and it was really nice and calm. We
stayed for 3 days.
Friday April 7, 2006
We left the USVI today. We are going slowly through a few islands in the BVI's and
preparing to go to St. Martin's.
Saturday April 8, 2006
We stopped at Norman Island for our obligatory visit to Willie T's. It is Larry and
I's favorite bar and always promises to provide fun and interesting entertainment.
We had a ball!
Sunday April 9, 2006
Sailed from Norman's to Trellis Bay and picked up a ball in between Island Dreamin'
and Conch'd Out. Since they are 2 of our favorite couples, we were happy to find
that spot. We had dinner and listened to great music at the Loose Mongoose on the
beach. MJ, the musician played and sang like no other. He played everthing from
Louis Armstrong to Jimmy Hendrix. It was awesome!!
Tuesday April 11, 2006
We went from Trellis to the Dogs. Great snorkeling and Larry wanted to take
advantage. Had lunch and left for Leverik Bay. It is a really pretty place.
Thursday April 13, 2006
Have spent 3 days here at Leverik. Took a cab ride up the mountain with 9 other
people. Had lunch at the Mine Shaft Bar.
Friday April 14, 2006
Made the crossing to St. Martin. We had to leave Virgin Gorda during daylight hours
to avoid reefs and numerous fish pots, so we left at 3 PM. However, that would put
us into St. Martin at 2 AM at the speed we were traveling, so we turned off the
engine and sailed most of the way. We usually don't like to sail at 4 knots, but the
wind was so light and we had so much time to kill, that we just went with the flow.
Long night for Larry. He is such a diligent skipper!
Made it in at about daylight and got past the unlit buoys. Customs was a breeze.
Finally a place where dogs are welcome!! No papers even! There were people waiting
up to clear in with their dogs on their arm and they said nothing. I love the French!
Monday April 17, 2006
We have rented cabs and taken buses to see the entire island. The Dutch side is St.
Maarten and the French side is St. Martin. They each have their individual flair and
cultural flavor. I prefer the French side, because the shopping is awesome! Larry
takes the girls for their walk every morning with the other hundred dogs roaming the
streets or with their owners. They have gotten so used to other dogs, it is amazing!
Not at all the way they started out! This morning, he stopped at the French Bakery
and brought home fresh bread and crouissants. The girls waited outside with the
"bakery dogs." All three of them seem to have acclimated themselves quite quickly.
Thursday April 20, 2006
We rented a car with another couple and drove the entire island (7 miles wide). We
just played tourist, stopping at shops too shop, visited a few bars and had lunch at
a French Cafe. Really nice day!
Saturday April 22, 2006
Well today we visited the famous Orient Beach. It is a famous clothing optional
beach, so of course Larry wanted to check it out. It was interesting! Both of us
agreed that it was something to see, but we have no desire to do that again.
Thursday April 27, 2006
Our Texas friends on V'ger, Rhonda and Steve, were leaving for St. Barts and snagged
a fish pot. Now they have to get a new shaft and prop. While their boat is in the
yard, they are staying with us. We feel really bad for them because we remember all
too well how it feels to be "disabled." We are enjoying their company and they are
trying to simply enjoy St. Martin for a few more days.
Sunday April 30, 2006
Rhonda and I are having fun and I must admit, it is fun having a "girlfriend to play
with" on the boat. We have gone shopping, planned dinner for our hubbies and just
had a great time laughing and talking. Steve and Larry get along great as well, so
all in all, Ronda and Steve have been great boat guests. We really hate to see them
go!
