Sunday January 1, 2006
Happy New Year! Today we rested. We fed the pigs, ran with the dogs on the beach
and took a long dinghy ride all over because it was such a beautiful day.
Tuesday January 3, 2006
Well, we finally pulled up the hook and sailed away from Staniel Cay. We hated to
leave, but the rest of the islands await us. The entire anchorage pretty much
cleared out as well, but it seems everyone feathered out to different islands. We
only went 10 miles to Black Point today. We are running with Tanden (Al and
Jennifer) for now. We met Al and Jennifer Christmas Eve and they have done this for
about 10 years. But they sail for 6 months and then go to their house in Florida for
the other 6 months. He is a retired pilot and she was a teacher. We get along great,
and it is nice to have someone tell you where all the good spots are. They have not
gone all the way to South America but almost. We ate at the local restaurant here
and it was delicious. We were also able to walk the dogs through the town. This was
a nice change.
Wednesday January 4, 2006
The anchorage was so rough at Black Point that we decided to go ahead and go into
Farmers Cay today after all. We found a protected anchorage on the East side of
Little Farmers to prepare for the front that is blowing through in a day or so. It
is going to last a few days and we thought we would ride that through here.
Saturday January 7, 2006
After 2 days of lobster hunting, happy hours and exploring, we left Farmers Cay for
Georgetown. We are still running with Tanden. Al and Larry decided that the 20 mph
winds were perfect for sailing today so off we went. We got there about 3 PM and
luckily found a place at Hamburger Beach. It is really crowded and getting more
crowded by the minute. It seems Georgetown is the hot spot to be for a lot of
people, but just a stop over for us. Unfortunately, we will have to order a part and
wait for its arrival. Then we can head south. So, I suppose we will make the best of
it for now.
Sunday January 8, 2006
We found our friends, Jeannie and Bob, on Island Dreamin'. They came and visited
with us for a few drinks and Rainbowrider found us and anchored next to us at
Hamburger Beach. We have a good spot for taking the dogs to the beach and we are dug
in. We plan to stay for a while right here even with a heck of a front coming in. We
went to Chat and Chill and met up with several friends that we have met along the
way. We stayed for a several hours and had a great time. It is good to meet up with
familiar faces.
Monday January 9, 2006
We found a couple, Sylvie and Brad, on Eclipse, that we really have a lot in common
with and had drinks on their boat. Lots of fun!! Initially we met them in Allan's
Cay, then saw them again in Staniel's. I think we will try to spend a lot of time
with them.
Wednesday January 11, 2006
Just been hanging out at the beach, going to happy hours and boat hopping. Not a bad life!
Monday January 16, 2006
Been hanging out with Brad and Sylvie. They are a blast. They are going all the way
to Trinidad, so we hope to travel with them a lot along the way. Sylvie is a great
cook and has taught me so much about simple things in the kitchen that taste
fabulous. We are ready to head south, but we are waiting on a boat part.
Tuesday January 17, 2006
Went to a birthday party for a gal we met and tomorrow we are going to another party
to celebrate some guy catching a mahi mahi. The parties and happy hours are non
stop. I think Larry and I becoming "pickled".
Saturday January 21, 2006
In a few days, there is a decent wether window, so several of our friends are
heading south. Hopefully, we won't be further behind.
Tuesday January 24, 2006
The weather window started today and the anchorage cleared out. Lots of our friends
left and we really did want to be leaving with them... but we will eventually.
Concert on the beach... great fun!
Sunday January 29, 2006
This morning Larry and went for an hour and a half hike this morning. Too much
sitting around... we need to exercise. We were up half the night with the dogs. Both
are sick, but seem to be fine today. Luckily I do have a "doggie" first aid kit so
we treated them appropriately. Maybe in my next life, I can be a vet! We went to our
regular Sunday happy time at the Chat and Chill. It is scary how we have become one
of the "regulars" in such a short time. All the people who stay here for 6 months
keep telling us we will never leave. We are very ready to prove them wrong. But the
best part is that we have made lots of friends.
Monday January 30, 2006
We went to dinner on Eclipse and Sylvie invited another couple from Texas. We really
enjoyed talking with them and exchanging a bit of "home" jokes. We went through
about 4 bottles of wine, I think, but our excuse was it was Brad's birthday. A good
time was had by all and of course Sylvie produced another fabulous meal!
